As worn by Bryan Robson, Mark Hughes, Norman Whiteside, Paul McGrath, Frank Stapleton and Jesper Olsen This kit was worn during two seasons where despite high expectation, United finished fourth in the league on both occasions. It is however fondly remembered for being worn in the FA Cup win over the then Champions and European Cup Winners Cup winners, Everton. Despite being down to 10 men after Kevin Moran was sent off, United battled their way into extra time, when a counter attack sent Norman Whiteside away down the right hand side before cutting in and curling the ball around Neville Southall and into the net. The FA Cup win spurred United along the following season to record 10 straight wins. An eleventh win would have equalled the record for top flight successive wins at the start of the season; a 1-1 draw with Luton put paid to that. The 85-87 shirt is a very popular shirt amongst those who collect retro jerseys.
